Higher Price = Better Journey
As promised, this entry is going to share with all of you why we need to pay additional $$$ for coaches when travelling SIN-KL or KL-SIN.
It all started when Jon was purchasing his coach ticket from Grassland at Golden Mile Complex. They were selling the coach ticket at $26 for a single trip. As usual Jon tried to bargain as he knew of some other companies selling it at only $23. But the lady selling the tickets explained that the service they were providing was much better and they were also providing a direct trip from Point A to Point B. The latter sounded confusing to Jon but as it was getting late, Jon simply purchased the ticket to KL first and hoping to get a better deal when he reached KL for the return trip ticket.
As expected, the journey to KL was indeed comfortable. Only one stop for a short break upon half the journey. Of course there was the expected jam when you reached KL city, especially over the weekend or holiday...
Upon reaching KL, Jon went on to check on the return coach ticket at Puduraya Bus Station. There were many booths selling coach tickets to and fro KL. To his surprise, they were selling the tickets at only Rm $35 only. That was much cheaper than he paid to Grassland...
However the nightmare only began on the way home. Here's the list of what Jon's bad encounters:
Firstly the coach was older than the one from Grassland, so the seats were smaller. The coach also gave off a twinking sound from the rusty screws all around.
Secondly the coach set off 45 mins later than schedule. If Jon was not wrong, the bus company was actually waiting for last min passengers to fill up the whole coach.
Thirdly just when you started to doze off on your seat, you would be disrupted by various stoppages as the coach driver picked up 'Special Passengers" along the way. A closer look reviewed that the "Special Passengers" were the coach driver's friends taking a free ride to Johore. They were sitting at the steps in front of the front doors.
Fourthly, the group of "Special Passengers" chatted loudly which you would never find peace in sleeping.
In the end, you would end up feeling frustrated the whole journey. Lesson learnt: Spend a little more next time when you are travelling to KL on some reputable travel agencies. At least you would enjoy your whole journey. Even if you are not, you know where to complain later.
So choose wisely!

Actually, as long as you come back from KL, you will have to wait for "last minute" passengers to fill up the coach. It will apply to Grassland as well. That's why the journey to KL is usually shorter than that from KL to Singapore... Another nice one you can try is Alisan...
Just happened to browse your blog linked from Pastor Ben's one. Hope you don't mind.
Hi Eve,
Thanks for your comments... Heard that Alisan also not bad.
Also there are 2 more "high class" coach services called Aeroline and Nice. Aeroline has double deck too... =)
Feel free to drop by, you are always welcome.
Cheers. =)
Haha... high class means high price... :p My sis wanted to try out the double deck ones. I won't spend that money lah. The coach seats alone can cover my whole packge fare. Alisan is good enough for me. The seats are so big get to lie down comfortably and sleep soundly. Took me only 4 hours to reach KL. And the whole package including hotel stay for 3 days 2 nites only $118. :)
Oh yah... Singapore is so small. My friend knows you. She works in Int'l media design & promotion.
Really? Opps... does she knows my blog? so embarrassing to let ppl in the industry knows about my "insignificant" life...
this is my personal "shout" page in silent...
No lah... I dun remember telling her about your blog. Actually i was curious what your job is about so I asked her. That's how I know she knows you.
You have an interesting way in blogging. You like to use 3rd person to blog eh... Quite unique...
oh ic... i hope i didnt leave many bad impressions to your friend then... Heee... =)
Ermmm... I have no idea. Didn't ask lah. She was just "Oh! He's a Christian?" like that lor. I was trying to find out about your company not about you remember? :p
ok loh...
my company is called Kingdom Of Heaven and my boss is the LORD!
=)
Chey! I can see that you are back to your "spiritual" self liao eh... Haha... Lame lor you...
What to do... Im basically nothing but God's graces... =)
So far, Grassland is one of the best you get for going from SIN-KL. I am happy to pay a bit more for the comfort.
However, if you really want to save money, you can go to Johor Bahru, either at Merlin Tower or Larkin bus station to buy a ticket. It will be much cheaper than buying from Singapore.
I usually take Alisan for Ipoh->Singapore ... they are pretty good.
Cool blog, interesting information... Keep it UP »
